I met Gracie back in July at our nursing school orientation. My first thought was, wow. This girl has it together. She showed up dressed to the nines, hair curled, dress, you know all the things. Little did I know, that girl would quickly become one of my best friends. In our many, MANY nights of studying, we shared little bits and pieces about our lives. This one night, she brought up some guy named Colin. I could tell that Colin was something special because she could not say his name without smiling, not once. And if she ever does, you should probably be worried. I quickly learned that Colin was not just some random friend of hers, but someone who she cared incredibly deeply for.

When Colin reached out this past Tuesday with a text from his Dad’s phone, I knew that something great was about to happen. Colin is one of the most thoughtful people I have ever met. He’s one of those people who will do anything for those who matter to him. He planned so long ago to make sure that this day was everything Gracie had ever dreamed of. He planned for her parents to fly into town, made sure he had photographers ready at all angles, Gracie had coffee, and the whole day to study for next week’s pharmacology test. If there was something that she needed, it had already crossed his mind.

Shortly after they arrived, they walked down to the deck to build a fire. After the fire was built, Colin looked out at the water, wrapped his arm around Gracie and started, very softly, saying the sweetest of things. After a little while, he grabbed both of her hands and dropped down to one knee. She immediately said “YES” and he gave her a hug so big her feet left the ground. At that moment, all of the parents opened the window to cheer.

All this to say, I’ve never met two people who love the Lord and one another quite like these two. I feel so blessed to have been part of such a beautiful day! Here’s to all the study nights that will now be balanced out with wedding planning!
